Taking Action
Supporting charities
Emergency aid
During 2023, Action also stepped in to help victims of natural disasters, donating to charities in several countries. In 2023, Action’s support for partnerships and other donations – both in cash and kind – totalled €4.3 million.
Tax responsibility
We continue to pay fair taxes, basing our decisions on business criteria rather than possible tax advantages.
We have decided not to set a target or KPI for tax responsibility, given that tax payments are the result from financial performance and the prevailing tax regime.
We believe that paying our fair share of tax contributes to local communities and supports long-term economic and social development. In 2023, Action collected and paid approximately €2.2 billion in tax. In our approach, we make sure we comply with all relevant national and international tax rules, and take into account both the spirit and intent of tax legislation.
We take a responsible approach to tax
Over 300 Action employees took part in the 2023 Amsterdam marathon, raising a combined €1,122,370 in sponsorship – which included a contribution of €45,000 from Action – for the cancer centre at Amsterdam University.
SOS Children’s Villages
Worldwide, around one in ten children and young people are separated from their families, abandoned, neglected or forced to live an abusive environment. SOS Children’s Villages works to keep families together where possible, advocates for children’s rights and provides care and protection for children unable to stay with their families. Through SOS Children’s Villages, Action supported 2,304 children across Europe and Asia.
Action Scholarship Fund
We believe everyone has the right to education, regardless of wealth or income. Set up in 2017, the Action Scholarship Fund supports employees who need help meeting the cost of their children’s education. The Fund is now available to employees in almost all Action countries.
Johan Cruyff Foundation
The Johan Cruyff Foundation sets up outdoor sports facilities for children in deprived areas and provides social sports programmes. The Foundation focuses on children who don’t have regular or guaranteed access to sport facilities. Action has been supporting the Johan Cruyff Foundation since 2022. And, since 2023, Action has partnered with sports organisation FC Straat in the Netherlands to encourage young people to adopt an active lifestyle by getting involved with street football.
